Nanomedicine— a concept that encompasses the myriad applications of nanotechnology toward the betterment of human health— has become a high-profile area of research within the chemistry community. Strong enthusiasm for this emerging field was plainly evident in the first “Advances in Nanomedicine” symposium, held in the Fall 2006 ACS National Meeting in San Francisco.
"Advances in Nanomedicine 2008," to be held August 17-19 in the upcoming Fall 2008 ACS National Meeting in Philadelphia, will build on the momentum from the earlier symposium and represent the breadth of current activities in academia and industry in 5 half-day sessions. Many of these topics will also be covered in a special focus issue in the journal Nanomedicine.
Session I (Sunday AM): Imaging and Theragnostics
Session II (Sunday PM): Drug Delivery and Uptake
Session III (Monday AM): Nanomaterials of Imaging and Biosensing
Session IV (Monday PM): Nanoparticle Pharmacology and Toxicology
Session V (Tuesday AM): Nanomaterials in Cell and Tissue Engineering
Invited speakers include: Ji-Xin Cheng (Purdue), Jinwoo Cheon (Yonsei), Neil Desai (Abraxis), Jason Hafner (Rice), Roaul Kopelman (Michigan), Charles Martin (Florida), Nancy Monteiro-Riviere (N.C. State), Anil Patri (NCL), Maurizio Prato (Trieste), Jianghong Rao (Stanford), David Sept (Washington-St. Louis), Sam Stupp (Northwestern), Vladimir Torchilin (Northeastern), Bing Xu (HK-UST), Miqin Zhang (Washington-Seattle), Otto Zhou (UNC-Chapel Hill).
The sessions are currently scheduled to be held in Loews -- Washington A; the AM sessions run from 9-12:10 PM and the PM sessions run from 2:30-5:30 PM.
